Statement on Behalf of the Co-Leads of the Coalition of Trade Ministers on Climate

The co-leads of the Coalition of Trade Ministers on Climate express their unwavering solidarity and strong support for the Caribbean region and all those most impacted by the devastating effects of Hurricane Beryl. This catastrophic event underscores the harsh realities of the climate crisis and its disproportionate impacts on small vulnerable countries that are on the front lines to climate shocks.

We extend our deepest sympathies and heartfelt condolences to the governments and people affected by this tragedy, who are facing the profound loss of lives and livelihoods. The unprecedented nature of such a powerful hurricane so early in the season is a stark reminder of the increasing severity of climate change. Essential sectors like tourism, fisheries, and agriculture, along with critical infrastructure such as ports—which are vital to trade and economic development—have suffered severe damage.

In light of these challenges, the co-leads of the Coalition reaffirm our commitment to pursuing fair and just pathways toward climate-resilient development. We are dedicated to supporting developing countries in their trade-related climate strategies, focusing on both adaptation and mitigation efforts. Through collective action and international cooperation, we aim to foster sustainable development that safeguards the most vulnerable and promotes resilience against future climate-related threats.
